Introduction
A payment gateway is a technology service used by merchants to process online payments, and accept debit or credit card purchases from customers. This service can be provided by banks directly or a payment service provider authorized by a bank. As customers look for easier ways to pay and businesses seek easier ways to sell, payment gateways provide the security and opportunities both need.
We chose payment gateways with strong reputations and security features that offered support for the most payment types, and worked easily with major websites. Pelcro can also integrate with other payment gateways as needed. For more information, please contact your Pelcro account manager.

Merchant account
If you are going to operate an online business and want to accept card payments online, you will typically need at least one internet merchant account. A merchant account is a type of bank account that allows your business to accept payments by debit or credit cards. It is essentially an agreement between you, a merchant bank, and a payment processor for the settlement of credit card and/or debit card transactions.
If you're looking to get started with online transactions quickly and inexpensively, some payment gateways (e.g. Stripe & Paypal) can offers holistic solutions for online payments that don't require a merchant account. For more information, please contact your payment gateway.
How it works
When you integrate Pelcro with your payment gateway, the payment gateway is essentially your channel to make and receive payments, including the customer requiring to fill in details, like credit/debit card number, expiry date, and CVV.
When your customers pays for a subscription on an eCommerce product with a credit card, after the payment is processed, the payment amount gets transferred from the customer's account into your merchant account (if applicable), and from there eventually transferred to your business bank account.
Pelcro's role in payment processing
Pelcro stands as the middle man between your website and the payment gateway you use.
Pelcro integrates directly with the payment gateway behind the scenes, so that when your customers enters their payment information online, the payment gateway encrypts their information and sends it to the bank that issued the card. If the transaction is approved, the order gets fulfilled. This process typically takes just seconds, so it's all pretty seamless.
All of your customers' card details are never stored on Pelcro's platform. Depending on your choice of gateway, this information is stored on the payment gateway's side. The communication between Pelcro and the payment gateway happens through automatically generated 'tokens' that correspond to the card information, which Pelcro uses to complete the payment transaction on your website.
Setting up
Once you have both a payment gateway and a merchant account, you're halfway through. All you need to do next is to connect your payment gateway with Pelcro. You can have multiple payment gateways configured in your site simultaneously. For instructions on configuring different gateways, please see the below links:
Testing
Pelcro's staging website allows you to preview different payment flows to test different payment scenarios. When you sign up for Pelcro, you can speak to your account manager for having a dedicated staging area for your business as part of your plan.
