The customer object contains an object called metadata that allows for the flexible storage of any custom field related to the customer.


The metadata was created to accommodate for custom data fields businesses would like to store about the user that is specific to their business or is dynamic in nature.

Use cases

There are multiple use cases to the customer metadata, below is a list of common use cases:

1- Custom data attributes that are specific to your business.
2- Saved, followed, or equivalent data objects that expand over time
3- Any usage-based data attributes

How to use it

The metadata is available via the Elements, SDKs, and APIs. The saved and followed functionality by default saved the articles the user saves or followed in the metadata. However, the SDKs and APIs give you the flexibility to modify the metadata directly.
